ENAO hosted a highly successful World Accreditation Day Workshop at the Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa on Thursday 9 June 2011.

The event was attended by over 100 stakeholders and attracted significant media coverage.  His Excellency, Minister of Science and Technology, Minister Dessie Dalkie opened the workshop with an address on the importance of accreditation and the significance of the newly established Ethiopian National Accreditation Office (ENAO) in supporting the National Quality Infrastructure.

The Workshop consisted of a series of presentations on the:

  • role of accreditation in international trade and the accreditation requirements of the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement;
  • importance of accreditation in supporting regulators; 
  • experience and challenges faced by the Ethiopian Leather Institute laboratory, which is an accredited facility; and
  • National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) of Ethiopia and is important in supporting economic development.

The presentations were followed by a lively and interactive discussion session in which a variety of accreditation related topics was covered.
